The TNR Method

So, now that we’ve discussed our problem, let me introduce you to the simple answer!

Solution: The TNR Method

Overview: Cats are humanely trapped and taken to a veterinarian to be neutered and vaccinated (Alleycat.org). After recovery, the cats are returned to their colony outdoors. Kittens/cats who are friendly and socialized to people may be adopted into homes.

  1. Trap: Establish feeding pattern (allow 2-3 days), set up feeding station/shelter. Have a place to hold the trapped cats (warm, dry, secure)
  2. Spay/Neuter: Schedule with low cost provider, arrange transportation, return to holding space for recovery (about 3 days)
  3. Return: Keep an eye out for new colony members/ other members you were unable to catch, provide regular food/shelter (optional)
